Stirling PDF: Stored XSS in Info Summary

Stirling-PDF is a locally hosted web application that facilitates various operations on PDF files. Prior to 2.0.0, the Get Info workflow in app/core/src/main/resources/templates/security/get-info-on-pdf.html inserts untrusted PDF Title and Author metadata into the summary-text element with innerHTML, allowing a malicious PDF to execute stored cross-site scripting when a user clicks Get Info and to access browser-session data or modify page content. This issue is fixed in version 2.0.0.

Stirling-PDF: Internal Service Account API Key Disclosure via Pipeline Endpoint

Stirling-PDF is a locally hosted web application that facilitates various operations on PDF files. Prior to 2.9.0, the /api/v1/pipeline/handleData endpoint in app/core/src/main/java/stirling/software/SPDF/controller/api/pipeline/PipelineProcessor.java injects the STIRLING-PDF-BACKEND-API-USER API key into pipeline subrequests, allowing an authenticated ROLE_USER to retrieve the key through /api/v1/user/get-api-key, impersonate the internal service account, bypass normal rate limits, and access internal endpoints including /api/v1/info/requests/all and /api/v1/info/load/all. This issue is fixed in version 2.9.0.

Stirling-PDF Server-Side Request Forgery via /api/v1/convert/url/pdf WeasyPrint Subprocess

Stirling-PDF's POST /api/v1/convert/url/pdf endpoint (ConvertWebsiteToPDF.java) was not updated with the CustomHtmlSanitizer/SsrfProtectionService SSRF protections that were added to three sibling conversion endpoints (html/pdf, file/pdf, markdown/pdf). The endpoint validates only that the initial requested URL resolves to a public IP, then fetches the page's HTML server-side and hands it, unsanitized, to a WeasyPrint subprocess. Embedded resource references in the fetched HTML (e.g. `<img src="http://169.254.169.254/...">`) are fetched by WeasyPrint with no per-resource SSRF filtering, allowing an attacker-controlled page to cause the server to retrieve cloud metadata endpoints or internal network resources and leak their contents back into the generated PDF.

Stirling-PDF: Reflected XSS through crafted PDF metadata fields (Title and Author)

Stirling-PDF is a locally hosted web application that facilitates various operations on PDF files. Prior to 2.0.0, Stirling-PDF's /get-info-on-pdf endpoint rendered PDF Title and Author metadata fields without proper HTML encoding or sanitization, allowing a crafted PDF to execute attacker-controlled JavaScript in the browser of a user who views the resulting page. This issue is fixed in version 2.0.0.

Stirling-PDF: Reflected XSS through crafted filename in file upload functionality

Stirling-PDF is a locally hosted web application that facilitates various operations on PDF files. In versions prior to 2.0.0, file upload endpoints render user-supplied filenames directly into HTML using unsafe methods like innerHTML without sanitization. An attacker can craft a file with a malicious filename containing JavaScript that executes in the uploading user's browser context, resulting in reflected XSS. The issue affects numerous upload endpoints across the application. The issue has been fixed in version 2.0.0.

Stirling-PDF Zip Slip: Arbitrary File Write via Path Traversal in Markdown-to-PDF ZIP Extraction

Stirling-PDF is a locally hosted web application that performs various operations on PDF files. In versions prior to 2.5.2, the /api/v1/convert/markdown/pdf endpoint extracts user-supplied ZIP entries without path checks. Any authenticated user can write files outside the intended temporary working directory, leading to arbitrary file write with the privileges of the Stirling-PDF process user (stirlingpdfuser). This can overwrite writable files and compromise data integrity, with further impact depending on writable paths. The issue was fixed in version 2.5.2.
