Forgejo 13.0.0 through 16.0.4, when "[federation] ENABLED = true" is …

Forgejo 13.0.0 through 16.0.4, when "[federation] ENABLED = true" is set, has a spoofing issue that affects identity integrity but does not allow account takeover or content modification. It does not verify that the HTTP Signature on an incoming ActivityPub activity was produced by the key belonging to the actor named in the activity body. The signature verification in routers/api/v1/activitypub/reqsignature.go validates the request signature, but the inbox activity handlers subsequently read the acting identity from the attacker-controlled JSON body without binding it to the verified signing key. Additionally, the signed Digest header is not recomputed against the received request body. A remote attacker who hosts a single valid ActivityPub actor and keypair can therefore submit signature-valid activities attributed to any actor identity they name.

node-forge through 1.4.0 RSA PKCS#1 v1.5 Signature Forgery via Nested DigestAlgorithm Padding

node-forge through 1.4.0 fails to validate element count in nested DigestAlgorithm sequences during RSA PKCS#1 v1.5 signature verification. Attackers can embed garbage bytes inside the DigestAlgorithm sequence to forge valid signatures for arbitrary messages using low-exponent RSA keys. This is an incomplete fix for CVE-2026-33894.

Forgejo Repository Migration is_migrate_allowed.go net.LookupIP server-side request forgery

A vulnerability was found in Forgejo up to 15.0.4. This issue affects the function net.LookupIP of the file services/migrations/allowlist/is_migrate_allowed.go of the component Repository Migration Handler. Performing a manipulation results in server-side request forgery. The attack can be initiated remotely. The exploit has been made public and could be used. The patch is named b313bb83f5ff22bcc0378e0e0ca7bbd58303f168. It is recommended to apply a patch to fix this issue. The project maintainer explains: "I don't intend to backport this to v15 or v16 as it is a breaking change."

Forgejo < 15.0.3 - Stored XSS via Actions Run Full Name Rendering

Forgejo before 15.0.3 contains a stored cross-site scripting vulnerability that allows authenticated attackers to execute arbitrary JavaScript in other users' browsers by setting a full name containing an HTML payload and triggering an Actions run. When the DEFAULT_SHOW_FULL_NAME option is enabled, the run description is assembled server-side with the user's display name interpolated into an HTML string via a translation function that does not escape its arguments, and the frontend renders the result using a Vue v-html binding, causing script execution for any user who views the affected Actions run page.

Forge has a basicConstraints bypass in its certificate chain verification (RFC 5280 violation)

Forge (also called `node-forge`) is a native implementation of Transport Layer Security in JavaScript. Prior to version 1.4.0, `pki.verifyCertificateChain()` does not enforce RFC 5280 basicConstraints requirements when an intermediate certificate lacks both the `basicConstraints` and `keyUsage` extensions. This allows any leaf certificate (without these extensions) to act as a CA and sign other certificates, which node-forge will accept as valid. Version 1.4.0 patches the issue.

Forge has signature forgery in Ed25519 due to missing S > L check

Forge (also called `node-forge`) is a native implementation of Transport Layer Security in JavaScript. Prior to version 1.4.0, Ed25519 signature verification accepts forged non-canonical signatures where the scalar S is not reduced modulo the group order (`S >= L`). A valid signature and its `S + L` variant both verify in forge, while Node.js `crypto.verify` (OpenSSL-backed) rejects the `S + L` variant, as defined by the specification. This class of signature malleability has been exploited in practice to bypass authentication and authorization logic (see CVE-2026-25793, CVE-2022-35961). Applications relying on signature uniqueness (i.e., dedup by signature bytes, replay tracking, signed-object canonicalization checks) may be bypassed. Version 1.4.0 patches the issue.

Forge has Denial of Service via Infinite Loop in BigInteger.modInverse() with Zero Input

Forge (also called `node-forge`) is a native implementation of Transport Layer Security in JavaScript. Prior to version 1.4.0, a Denial of Service (DoS) vulnerability exists in the node-forge library due to an infinite loop in the BigInteger.modInverse() function (inherited from the bundled jsbn library). When modInverse() is called with a zero value as input, the internal Extended Euclidean Algorithm enters an unreachable exit condition, causing the process to hang indefinitely and consume 100% CPU. Version 1.4.0 patches the issue.

Forge has signature forgery in RSA-PKCS due to ASN.1 extra field

Forge (also called `node-forge`) is a native implementation of Transport Layer Security in JavaScript. Prior to version 1.4.0, RSASSA PKCS#1 v1.5 signature verification accepts forged signatures for low public exponent keys (e=3). Attackers can forge signatures by stuffing “garbage” bytes within the ASN structure in order to construct a signature that passes verification, enabling Bleichenbacher style forgery. This issue is similar to CVE-2022-24771, but adds bytes in an addition field within the ASN structure, rather than outside of it. Additionally, forge does not validate that signatures include a minimum of 8 bytes of padding as defined by the specification, providing attackers additional space to construct Bleichenbacher forgeries. Version 1.4.0 patches the issue.
